Tuk tuk rental Sri Lanka’s first Customers!
I am thrilled to (unexpectedly) announce that we have had our first customers on the road since the 3rd of December (10 days ago now!). We had only gone officially “live” a few days before being contacted by Lisa and Charlie… This was a little surprising to me and to be honest I felt a little unprepared for them, to the point that I had 3 backup tuktuks. For those that don’t know we don’t own any of our tuktuks, we actually hire them from locals to help boost their income and well, tuktuk drivers can be a little unpredictable at best – hence the 3 backups. Our first tuktuk driver in the line was Sanath who drove all the way from Kandy starting at 4:30am in the morning to get here on time. There was transport strike the day before so he couldn’t deliver the vehicle early as there was some violence against tuktuk drivers going on in certain parts of Sri Lanka.
Nevertheless Sanath prevailed and was our first tuktuk supplier! He gave a 1 hour driving lesson to Charlie and even helped drive all the way back to Kandy on the first day! I must say a huge incredible THANK YOU to Sanath for believing in the business and being the first local to sign a contract and give their tuktuk to a foreigner. Sanath you are my hero!! I hope we can continue to support you in the future and I know your tuktuk is in safe hands!
Lisa is a Melbournite but like so many other Australians has been living in the UK for a number of years. Not surprisingly she fell in love with the charming Charlie! After travelling through India and surviving the demonetisation crisis (that still unfolds, especially for those less advantaged), they made it to Sri Lanka! They are both going back to Australia following this trip – the first time in 4 years for Lisa! This has been the most amazing journey so far and we keep saying how completely different it would be without the tuk tuk. We almost can’t even imagine travelling Sri Lanka without it! We will be so sad when the time comes to part with both Sri Lanka and the tuk tuk! It really is the perfect way to explore this country! We just slowly drove through a street festival where kids and adults were dancing through the streets in costume and these are the experiences you would usually miss!
