What does your insurance cover?

Our Tuktuks come with comprehensive insurance which covers you for damage to your tuktuk and other vehicles. It also covers personal injury to you, your passengers, and 3rd parties (see diagram). We still recommend you have your own Travel Insurance in case of a mishap – flying you to hospital in your own country isn’t covered. For your travel insurance, we suggest you make sure you are covered for both car and motorcycle – this will prevent you running into any trouble if you need to make a claim.

 

Can I drop the tuktuk to a different location?

Yes! We have a number of options listed in the booking form. If your preferred drop off destination is not listed, send an email to info@tuktukrental.com and we will give you a price for dropping off there. The price for dropping off outside Colombo covers a return trip for one of our driver to collect the vehicle, and an extra days rental.

 

Can I pickup the tuktuk from a different location?

We prefer for all pickups to happen in Mt Lavinia (Colombo). This makes it easier for us to hand over your tuktuk drivers licence and give you a driving and maintenance lesson.

In some circumstances, we can make exceptions to this rule. Please send an email to info@tuktukrental.com with your specific request and we try and accommodate.

Why do you have different prices for less than 4 days?

We charge more for shorter term rentals because the value proposition for our tuktuk owners isn’t as good. We pass on higher rates to our tuktuk owners for short term rentals.

 

What happens if my tuktuk gets stolen?

Tuktuk theft is extremely rare in Sri Lanka. If your tuktuk does get stolen, you will be covered by our insurance policy (so long as the vehicle isn’t stolen using your set of keys).

 

What happens if my accessories get stolen?

We will ask you to cover the cost of any accessories that are lost of stolen. They aren’t worth too much, with the exception of the tuktuk keys, which cost US$75 to replace.

 

Do I need to pay in advance to secure my booking?

Yes. In line with our social business model, we need your payment to be confirmed before we can commit to renting your tuktuk from one of our incredible local suppliers.

 

Do I get a refund if I need to cancel?

As long as you provide us 7 days notice, we will issue you a full refund (including deposit) for any cancellation. If you cancel within 7 days, we will refund for the booking but not the customer deposit ($150).

 

Do you accept credit card?

Yes! When you proceed to the PayPal payment page, select ‘Pay by Credit Card’ down the bottom (see image below).
